A Step Ahead

I think that is my first hand drawn animation project. I might be wrong, I have bad -selective- memory.

A big shoutout to my younger self for bravely trying to do things he has never done before. My current self is mostly about grinding the things I have previously started learning.

I think the “being bad at something is the start to being good at anything” mindset is only good for a starter’s mindset. For the start of a wanderer’s journey to learn something new, it’s really good. The sentence alone can ignite the fire the wanderer needs to keep on walking. It is the pat in the back saying your first few try will sucks, but it’s OK. Because that’s how you learn. By being bad at something. By failures. But you keep doing it. Keep practicing. By practicing something over and over again until you finally get the essence of it. It is OK to be bad at first, and I think it is imperative that you acknowledge how bad you are at the beginning so you can see the differences between your work and the work of the masters at whatever it is you’re trying to learn. Once you acknowledge the difference, you’ll start seeing paths. Paths that will take you to mastery. But what’s next after you finally able to see the paths?

Different goal calls for different strategy. I think I need a new mindset to accompany my journey beyond being a beginner at anything. No, I don’t think I should forget the of starter’s mindset. I think I need something new as an addition to hold on to while really trying to push my internal boundary. To the highest grade of any skill. Toward mastery, I guess.

Motion Test 01

And then there’s this one. It’s part of my hand drawn animation project, although it’s only a motion test. Designed to remind me how bad I am still at animation and to relearn the fundamentals. It was fun. I’ll be sure to do a couple more before moving on with the project. But even from this one animation test, I have taken some interesting notes— at least for me it’s interesting. Meanwhile preparing and working on parallel passion projects of mine, I hope I can tidy up and share the notes in the coming weeks. Cheers. :)
